This one time, my friend Nidhi and I walked for 45 minutes in search of a bar where we could hang, talk and bitch out the boys. We had to resort to a popular bar in a 5 star hotel by the beach. Almost a year later, I heard of Vinoteca by Sula opening at Worli. I was jumping with joy. Not only are the Sula Vineyards quickly becoming my favourite weekend getaway but also we single girls in the city now have a bar to go to.
I’m not really into alcohol. When I make drinking plans, it is understood that I will be sipping on wine (white or rosé) and those accompanying me will be washing down whiskey, rum or vodka as they please. And that’s another reason Vinoteca is the perfect option for me. A selection of wines I’m way too familiar with and a variety of Spanish food. Couldn’t get better.
We sampled practically all the vegetarian food on the menu. Of course, we began our meal with the famous patatas bravas. You might remember me telling you about my friend’s love for potato wedges. A tapa of patatas bravas brought a huge smile to her face. The portion size was quite good too. We were munching on it right till the end.
The pintxos menu changes everyday. When we went, we were treated to 2 kinds. One was a mushroom variety and the other was a tomato based sauce laden with feta cheese. We were quite happy with the melting cheese and tomato pintxo and actually ordered a repeat.
The aubergine dressed dish could be treated as a main. Served on a large-ish platter, it’s filled with all things nice. Really healthy too! The flavours of the different vegetables just burst in your mouth and the aubergine layer acts as a buffer. Must try!
My non-vegetarian eating friend was rather pleased with all that she was presented. Trigger happy too, Sanjana clicked all the pictures for this post. Aren’t you surprised at how 3 girls could finish all the food on the table? Needless to say, we were stuffed!
But I have to tell you about the dessert. Unlike the other items that were announced to us before they were brought, the desserts were meant to be a surprise. And a pleasant one it was. 4 in total, we tried the ice-creams made of wine, chocolate balls and chocolate coffee tart. My favourite was the Sula Zinfandel Blush ice-cream. It had the flavour of wine but melted in my mouth like ice-cream. How perfect? The chocolate coffee tart also pleased my taste buds. The coffee flavour was only an essence, not too strong, adding to the overall chocolate goodness.
Having sampled the food, the wine and got a feel of the place, I can easily say Vinoteca by Sula is perfect for a night out on the town with the girls. The interiors are minimalistic, the focus is on the drinks, the al fresco setting is just what the city needs and the bite sized food is what the chef ordered. Stop by after work and it’ll be a scene straight out of Sex And The City. Let me know your thoughts when you go.
