Bus kya Jackky Bhagnani?

Jabkky Bhagnani’s film F.A.L.T.U is up for release. I came across the trailer on television and realized it’s been inspired by Hollywood film ‘Accepted’. Irrespective of whether it’s a good adaptation or not, we’re probably going to see him in quirky tees.

I opened the Filmfare to find his interview.

Wake up and look at the t-shirt

It is quite literally what I did this morning.

I logged on to a blog I discovered in the tweeple jury list of nominees: The Bombay Talkies. Check it out: http://thebombaytalkies.blogspot.com

She had put up a funny, yet detailed post on the many shirts of Sid (Ranbir Kapoor in Wake Up Sid). It read:

“Over the course of the year Wake Up Sid has become one of my favorite movies.  It’s not convoluted or contrived or overly sappy, it doesn’t try to hard to be cool, there’s no faux-badassness or celebrity vanity showing through.  It’s just a sweet, simple story about two people and the lives they make for themselves.

It helps that Ranbir Kapoor’s more than a pretty face–the boy can act.

What else can he do, you ask?

He can wear a freaking t-shirt.  And seeing as how the production team went to great lengths to feature him in every version of “pop culturally-relevant graphic t-shirt” known to man, I feel it’s only appropriate to ogle…erm, observe him in a few of them.”

We ALL loved his t-shirts, didn’t we? I had people in office asking me to do a shopping special on cartoon t-shirts. (I did, btw) I immediately got on the bandwagon of praises for WUS, wrote an extensive column and spoke with the costume designers.

Here’s the page from the archives:

Which favourite cartoon would you like to have on your t-shirt? Which tee from Ranbir Kapoor’s collection in Wake Up Sid is your favourite. Write in with your answers! I can’t wait to read.

It’s a hoot, the owl pendant necklace

Look what I dug out from my personal archives, especially for you, my loyal readers:

In July 2009, I was commissioned to do a fun feature for Filmfare magazine. We thought up this idea: put together a look identical to a celebrity’s. Easy, right? The catch: a shoe-string budget and two days to shop for it!

For my first assignment, I picked the look Sonam Kapoor flaunted at the Filmfare anniversary issue cover launch. For my first attempt, I was really lucky. I had discovered my main outfit (a jumpsuit) at a shop in Colaba for as little as Rs 650.

The tough cookie, though, was the owl pendant necklace. Copies were available at stalls but we had to cook up stories for them to let us photograph. Just then, the original pendant from Forever 21 went up on sale at ebay for less than Rs 470.

I will never understand how Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are always pitted against one another.

While you solve the riddle, jog your memory to November 26, 2010. Break Ke Baad had released. And Deepika Padukone was spotted wearing, what else, but an owl pendant necklace in the film!

Incidentally, the whimsical owl necklace she sports is also from Forever 21. Check it out:

It seems like everyone I know (including girl friends) want the owl pendant necklace. It’s a little late but it’s still in vogue. We’ve scouted the Mumbai streets and found them at Sabbah Sharma’s store in Juhu, Vero Moda’s store at Bandra and Street Soul in Lokhandwala. However, there are really cute ones out there. All you have to do is shop online. My picks follow.

Hoot away! And if you already have an owl pendant or two, email me your pictures and we shall feature you on the blog. Lots of love, Alice.

Update: Ze friend, Shruti wandered the streets of Colaba  and found the owl pendant necklace she had been looking for. Like I had discovered on my shopping assignment and Raey had pointed out, imitations were available at the stalls. You could bargain with them and get them for Rs 100.

Project Runway | Sequined Dresses

Unfortunately I’ve contracted conjunctivitis. I know that I’ve complained enough on twitter. Anyway, given my sore eyes, I’m restricted to using the computer for watching television shows. My current obsession is Project Runway.

The show is devoid of the drama we are accustomed to on Indian reality tv. Thank goodness for that. It is actually so inspiring that I want to bust out cash and fetch the ‘brother’ sewing machine I saw in the store last week.

While watching season 8, I came across Heidi Klum sporting a sequined outfit in episode 6 titled ‘You Can Totally Wear That Again’.

Of course, I had reason to be really excited. I had featured the exact same dress in my Glamfare shopping spread, Filmfare issue dated June 9, 2010.

Paloma Mini Dress

It was an interesting feature for those newly introduced to online shopping. While researching for the article I realized, a sequined LBD (Little Black Dress) is the perfect recipe for a successful evening out. Be it a party, a red carpet affair, a formal occasion or even a night to the disco, you can’t go wrong.

In the spread, you will notice how I chose to style an actress in my own dress, picks from online stores and expert tips on how to be versatile with a garment like the sequined little black dress. Happy reading!

Shopping, Glamfare --> June 9, 2010, Filmfare

A lot of work went into the article featured above. It just makes me so happy to see items I have featured in the magazine appear on real-life actors months later. It’s a pat on the back for someone trying to observe trends. :D

On another note, I love the deliberation round in Project Runway. When the judges have decided who the winner and loser is, they have the best expressions to show confirmation. I can’t stop smiling and laughing. I’m also sad every time someone has to leave the show. They’re all so talented and hardworking.

So… If you’ve always wanted to wear your shiny black dress but didn’t know where to or how, you now have the answers. If you were scared to shop online, you will find clarifications to your doubts. If you like to see my styling and read my articles, you will enjoy going through this post. If you’re a Heidi Klum fan or watch Project Runway, I want to hear from you. Now that you finally know where ‘the dress’ came from. Anyhow, your feedback is welcome. Please don’t be shy!

Keep it simple! Style it up. Have some fun. xoxo Alice

Mallika | Indian beauty? | Nice shirt for sure

The other film to release this week was Mallika.
I’m sorry I can’t tell you how it was because I missed the screening. :P

I was first made aware of the film when I saw the poster.

Mallika poster

It instantly reminded me of the American Beauty poster.
I know one’s in a coffin and the other’s in a bed of roses.
They’re posing differently too.

However, this is not a game of spot the differences.
It’s whether you see the similarities.

Of course, for me, the spotting was followed by press releases and invitations to the screening.

My remote interest in the film was heightened when I found out Sammir Dattani was in it. I was quick to message him and confirm. He’s a sweet chap. We shot a Filmfare makeover with him.

You can read the story online here.

You might remember him as the ‘guy with the nice shirt’ from I Hate Luv Storys.

Anyhow, all those connections later, I still missed the screening and I’m not exactly inclined to go watch it. Sorry. :(

We spotted Sammir wearing the t-shirt he wore to the makeover shoot at the I Hate Luv Storys special screening.

Well, aren’t they both sporting nice t-shirts? Be sure to tell them the next time!

I hope you enjoyed the post. If you spot a celebrity wearing the same outfit again, you can write in to me. If you would like a makeover, you can write in to me. And if you’d generally like to say something, it’s the same. :)

Wear your best shirt today! Alice might just be wandering. ;)
