Skechers’ Spring/Summer ’13 Showcase

One of the interesting things about being a blogger is that you get invited to various showcases put up by international and local brands and get to learn so much more (than an average consumer) about a product you’re gonna buy. Needless to say, I was very intrigued when I was invited for Skechers’ Spring Summer ’13 showcase.

Surprisingly, Skechers is a fairly young brand (just about 20 years old). The company primarily produced lifestyle shoes but has now branched out into performance and sport shoes as well. We got a peek at the best shoes across all 3 categories.

And I learnt some really interesting things. Like, some styles have a completely flexible sole. You can actually fold the shoe completely, carry it with you and when you retrieve it, it will take its original shape. Cool, right? Certain styles have a memory foam sole. Heard of the memory foam mattress? Yep, same concept. The sole takes the shape of your foot and returns to its original form when not worn. I was impressed. Most of the styles have a mid-foot strike as opposed to a heel strike. So when you walk, run or exercise, the weight of your foot strikes the middle of the shoe, giving you a better grip and balance. Who knew?

This particular one above is my favourite shoe from the Skechers’ SS ’13 collection. Have you realised we most often buy ‘sport shoes’ in a white or grey colour? Why do we do that? So, I picked this black one. I like the pink accents. And they’re super comfy when you wear them. Also, the price point is great, only Rs 2999. Not a bad investment I say.

Which style is your favourite? Maybe I can tell you an interesting fact or two about it.

It’s about what you wear to the derby

I spent Sunday at the races. There was some great fashion on display and the sheer energy of the place made the hour and a half long wait to get in worthwhile. As fun as it was, it was also a nostalgic event. I remembered going to the derby years ago with my dad. In between races, they would a play a segment on derby dressing on the screen. I was enamoured. Little did I know then, I would be up on the screen this year dishing out tips on how to put together a look for the derby.

Take a look:

In case you were wondering what I finally wore to the derby, I’m sharing some pictures.

To dress or not to dress

To dress or not to dress

The store is so huge, it can be overwhelming. Of course, if you want to have a field day like I did, spend a luxurious 3 to 4 hours shopping and trying every style in the house. While Vero Moda stocked feminine dresses, trendy blouses, vintage bags and purses, Only stocked some casual jeans, tees, ganjees and my favourite, shorts and jumpsuits. Of course, I have to thank Priyanka (@pHatscoop) who patiently helped me pick out clothes to try. She kept smiling through the exercise and was excited to see each new look I put together.  Continue reading

What do you wear to a yard sale?

I usually like to be in the spirit of things and at first, I didn’t know what I was going to wear to the yard sale. But I managed to put together two different looks.

First outfit

Photograph: Himani Shah

Dress – Zara, London | Earrings – Topshop, London | Shoes – New Look, Croydon

There was a slight nip in the air that day. So, it was a good idea to wear three-quarter sleeves. My bow earrings finally got to make their second outing. Since peep toe boots or shoots are totally in vogue, I could show them off too.

Everyone seems to think the dress is actually two separates. I’ve been asked on several different occasions where my skirt is from. :) I was pretty happy with all the compliments and in the excitement… managed to rip the skirt a little bit. :(

Second outfit

Top – Hand-me-down | Jeans – Infinity, Mumbai | Shoes – H & M, Hong Kong | Chain and locket – Street Soul, Mumbai

On the second day, I was actually wearing a hand-me-down polo neck top. That was keeping in sync with the yard sale.

I must definitely have spoken about my favourite locket earlier. I’m also quite taken with these shoes I bought from H & M during my recent visit to Hong Kong. Co-incidentally, Aniruddha came to the yard sale sporting his Converse t-shirt and shoes.

What do you people think? What would you have worn to a yard sale?

Also, if you haven’t ‘liked’ the facebook page already, do so. You can look at some more pictures and be constantly updated with what’s happening on the blog. :)

Dress up | Shorts

2 movies to watch out for today.

My photographers are MIA.

A little inspiration and reflection to take me through the day.

I love shorts! And dressy shorts are the best!
If only I could wear them out and about in the city and not be stared at!

In any case, we picked up a really really cute tee at Zara.
The graphic is totally me. Watch out for a post… soon!

So, that’s what I am wearing for now.

Enjoy the collage. Items that are off the street for lesser than cab fare.
